Blog cover Fashion Revolution Week 2024

Over the last few years, consumer priorities have started to shift in the fashion industry. There is a growing demand for a more sustainable, ethical and transparent approach to fashion, and many are leaving ‘fast fashion’ behind them. Fashion Revolution’s message is more relevant than ever and at OB, we are supporting this global movement for yet another year.

We know that transforming the fashion industry won’t happen overnight and we invite our customers to stand with us and join the Fashion Revolution in 2024. We try hard every day to minimise our global footprint and we genuinely care about both the environment and our team of craftspeople. We still manufacture everything in Somerset and even offer factory tours, so you can come and see for yourself how we operate.

Slow fashion is currently very important and we are proud to say that this is the way we have done things for the last seven decades. As Fashion Revolution Week 2024 quickly approaches, now is the time to join the people-powered movement striving to reshape the fashion industry.

What is Fashion Revolution?

Founded in the aftermath of the Rana Plaza factory disaster in 2013, Fashion Revolution has grown into a global activism movement spread across 75 countries, advocating for systemic change in the fashion industry. The movement involves both the people who make clothes and the people who wear them, and by working together, they have the power to make positive change. Through awareness, education, and direct action, Fashion Revolution wants to create a more ethical, sustainable and transparent future for fashion.

Fashion Revolution’s vision is to help create a global fashion industry that conserves and restores the environment and values people over growth and profit.

Why Fashion Revolution Matters in Today’s ‘Fast Fashion’ World

In today’s fast-paced, digital age where consumers can order an item of clothing online and have it delivered to their house the next day, it’s more important than ever to take a moment to think about the manufacturing process behind the clothing being purchased. ‘Fast fashion’ is still a huge problem in 2024 and this model built on rapid production, low costs and a constant churn of new trends is causing significant problems in the fashion industry.

Not only does fast fashion contribute to pollution and waste, but it often overlooks workers’ rights, leading to exploitation and unsafe working conditions. Fashion Revolution is action-oriented and solution-focused, encouraging people to move away from fast fashion practices towards a model that respects both people and the planet.

Fashion Revolution Week 2024

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Fashion Revolution Week 2024 is set to be a landmark event with ten days of action. This extended week starts on Monday 15th April and brings together people from all over the world with a range of events that anyone can get involved in. You can find out more about what’s happening in the UK and online on the Fashion Revolution website, and how you can take part and make positive change. Fashion Revolution Week 2024 offers several opportunities for you to contribute to the transformation of the fashion industry.

Join Owen Barry and Transform the Industry Together

At OB, we are passionate about the values championed by Fashion Revolution and we too want to change the way clothes are sourced, produced and purchased. The journey towards an improved fashion industry needs your help and everyone can play a part, however big or small, in driving positive change. You don’t need to lead a “perfect” lifestyle and collectively, some simple changes can make a big difference.

Our commitment to producing high-quality, sustainable clothing reflects our dedication to ethical practices and environmental stewardship. By choosing materials responsibly, prioritising quality craftsmanship and offering a lifetime guarantee, we strive to contribute to a more sustainable fashion future. We will continue to work hard to ensure that everything our customers wear has been made in a safe, clean and fair way.

How You Can Join the Revolution

Ultimately, joining the Fashion Revolution is about embracing a more conscious approach to fashion. Here are a few straightforward ways you can get involved;

  • Educate Yourself and Others – Learn more about the impacts of fast fashion and how to take better care of your clothes so you waste less. Share this knowledge with your family and friends, and encourage them to make some small changes.
  • Ask Questions – Use your voice to demand transparency from brands you shop with. Ask who made your clothes and who made your fabric to encourage companies to be more transparent about their supply chains and manufacturing processes.
  • Support Ethical Brands – Choose to invest in brands that prioritise sustainability, ethical practices and transparency in their operations, like Owen Barry. You can order in confidence knowing your latest purchase is supporting the revolution.

Get Involved in Fashion Revolution Week This Year

At OB, not only will we be getting involved in Fashion Revolution Week 2024, but we will continue to be open and honest with our customers about the products we supply, how they’re made and where our materials come from. We believe that what happens behind the scenes is equally as important as the finished product displayed on our website or in our factory shop and we will continue to contribute to a better fashion industry for everyone.

We believe we can make a difference, one garment at a time, and you can join us in making 2024 a turning point for fashion. Choose to be part of the solution this year.
